Matthias-Johannes Fischer

Matthias-Johannes Fischer writes novels that resist a single genre. At times he lets his home city disappear into the fog of war; at others he follows a human being who may never die. Both lead to the same question: what remains of us when everything familiar loses its validity?

His novels combine contemporary history, speculative technology, social observation and literary reworkings of canonical material. Memory and guilt form a recurring thread, while individual characters are tested by war, flight, money, artificial intelligence and the promise of immortality.

Living Forever is available in German and English. Further novels and free stories expand the literary world of Patient Faust, Hamburg, Dresden and Chicago.
